These Leaders   My leaders if I call you liars and murderers Thieves and conspirators against humanity Would you be angry at me or at what I say I see you parading around in well-tailored suits And I wonder if that is your essence Image without substance I hear you speaking all these words And I wonder if you think That is all you need to do Tell me what you think I want to hear Spewing out words without convictions Disregarding the concerns that effect the future   I would have thought leaders to be Men of distinction With actions beyond reproach Commanding the respect of those they lead Even the respect of their enemies With honor and dignity defining deeds A beacon of integrity to be emulated Defending the universal truths and rights Not hiding behind positions of authority To commit crimes against humanity Buying and selling souls to the highest bidder   How can I look at these leaders With any respect or for any guidance Seeing the lying and cheating ways to power The murdering and destroying of innocent lives In short betraying themselves along with humanity Like they their positions of authority Exempts them form the rules Allow them to turn their backs to the truths Changes their wrong to right Free them up to conspire against humanity   So as I try to maintain my self-respect Accepting the truths about my actions Endeavoring to strive for the rights Live with the pains of my sins What respect would I have for myself Should I accept the lies told for truth How can I embrace all these excuses For these crimes and betrayal against humanity When I have an obligation to humanity An obligation I expect of my leaders To stand up for equal right and justice       [Home] [About] [Contact Us] [Poetry] [My Poetry] [Featured Poem] [User Poems] [Three Poems] [Events] [Guidelines] [Legal]
