The Cure
The Cure
by damali abrams

We live in a world where it’s dangerous to touch,
surrounded by dis-ease, despair and distrust.

Yet our faith remains strong, knowing that our connection
is beyond physical contact and more powerful than some
thoughtless moment that we can never take back. And our patience grows stronger, knowing that one day health and wellness will become epidemic,
and eventually, an impassioned embrace will not threaten to make us sick

They can’t create a virus that kills African souls,
no bacteria or fungus, no syndrome or mold.
Our strength and resilience come from centuries of toil,
Grandmothers Great cannot be disgraced, remember our platelets are royal.

Still we are careful, with knowledge as our daily supplement.
This world is war and we can’t afford to lie mentally dormant. If we’re all one and
my brother is ill how can I claim to be well?
And if the powers that be so callously poison Mama Earth,
should i trust the medicine that they sell?

We won’t let this culture of fear disease our minds,
but prevention is the only pill that will extend our life lines.
When we love we must make sure we are protected from illness,
with our third eyes wide open, reflecting the realness

We pray with each cell, with our words, with our thoughts,
knowing the answers lie locked in our hearts.
We create and manifest openly, we mourn, heal and rejoice, all shamelessly

So we could wrap our Selves in latex from foot to ‘fro,
you may not feel my skin but I can still feel your soul.
‘cuz sex can be fatal, but love-making makes us whole
We can hold hands, lock eyes or even read to each other,
sexuality is not the only expression that makes you my lover

We are the healing, we are the future, with our wings set to soar
we are the truth and the light, the life and the sight,
We are, my Love, the Cure
