Shells
I see grand edifices
Elaborate structures as symbols of  institutions
I see institutions that have  become shells
Institutions for justice
Institutions for equality and humanity
Yet I see the constant efforts to advance
Institutions of military might
Institutions of law and order
So called collective security

What sort of justice will there be
When stereotypes dominate
           popular sentiments
And the ensuing actions
         are filled with biases
As within any given society
Some are labeled and victimized
Ensuring strive and upheaval
Still dividing and conquering
Yet the universality of man is real
As is the God Head
So how could it be expected
I should just accept the injustice

And when I look around
to see the magnificence of structures
Defining religious institutions
And the pious airs with which
Us sinners enter said structures
Yet we walk out and I have to wonder
Where is the love
The universal love
The love of God

And what to think as I listen
To political leaders speaking what
Promises promises and more of that
Leaders playing the tough guy image
Ready to bolster the status quo
Maintaining and enacting unfair laws
Justifications to criminalize
      and oppress the poor
Yet speaking ever so quietly
         on the real issue
Justice for all
Each and every one of us

And you my brother sister  mother
Father friend neighbors
members of this diverse human race
Do you expect or want love
Without baring your heart out there
To be trampled on
Do you want some justice
yet not dealing with your
fellow man in kind
How much of whatever it is that you want
Will you give of yourself freely
Or will you be a shell of you
An elaborate structure
Another grand edifice .
