Abiona
what do I say to my people
As the fire burns in their souls
What do I say to a mother
Calling for warriors
At the sight of indignation
Suffered by her people

Seeing her unleash her passions
As the black tragedy of South Africa
Tears up her very being
Leaving an emptiness
Filling up the depths of her soul

How can I tell her to be still
Could I ask her to turn the other cheek
At the injustice she has suffered
When she is striving to be
Striving for the dignity that is hers

When I look into her eyes
Seeing a thousand stories of sadness
Knowing the pain she has endured
Why should I tell her to be silent
Not make her pain be known

How can I ask her to put out the fire
The very essence of her being
How can I ask
My mother, my sister, my lover
To die
How can I.
