A Day
A day of the year
Someone say is your day
And nationalism or whatever ism reign supreme
With flags waving and many a cheers
Giving off impressions of love and unity
Trying to show the world
Maybe remind yourselves
Who you think you are
How you could be if you so choose

Supposing someone
Should declare a day worldwide
Call it a day for humanity
A chance to embrace the human oneness
Could we as a people
Put aside the differences for that day
Celebrate that moment
With the passion and pride displayed
When nationalism and other isms are celebrated
As we embrace these little niches
The ultimate lines of our division

Embracing isms before your humanity
Putting the universal love behind bars
Subtly maintaining the divisions
Providing justifications for the hatred
Putting this life on a pedestal
Undermining the importance of the next
What balances does your life hangs in
When the universality of the human being
Becomes over-shadowed by nationalism
As your humanity counts for naught

Seeing yourself as something else first
And a human being somewhere behind that
Is but arrogance within and deception to self
Allowing some to lay claims to ideas of superiority
Propagating false doctrines of divisions
Maintaining the inequality and injustice
Keeping us in a cycle of hatred and violence
While some rob and pillage behind false superiority
Be it race religion, nationalism, culture, royalty …..
All these ideologies overshadowing the humanity
Providing seats of power for tyrants and murders
